What are Root Canals?
Root canals are common dental procedures that involve removing the inner pulp of the tooth. A tooth that has become severely decayed or has broken to the point of exposing the pulp will need a root canal. The root canal not only works to eliminate pain and discomfort that you might be experiencing, but it can even be helpful in maintaining the structure of the actual tooth. The procedure is highly beneficial, and can be done in under an hour in our office.
Why are Root Canals needed?
Most often, a root canal is needed if a cavity has been ignored to the point of the decay reaching the pulp of the tooth. If a tooth has broken or cracked, it might expose the pulp, and result in the need for a root canal. When you need a root canal, the tooth in question will likely be painful, and sensitive to hot and cold liquids. An exam, as well as an x-ray, will help determine if you need a root canal.

Who is a good candidate for Root Canals?
Most patients who have an infected or exposed pulp will need a root canal. The procedure is safe, effective and done within an hour in our office. To determine if a root canal is necessary, we will perform an exam and check your dental x-rays. You may be scheduled for a root canal if we find the pulp has become compromised.

Here’s what to expect when you receive Root Canal treatment at our dental office: Local anesthetic is needed to numb the area around where the root canal will be done. The tooth will be separated from the rest of the mouth with a dental dam. Our doctor drills into the tooth to remove decay, exposing the actual pulp. The pulp is then removed, and the canals of the tooth are cleaned. The canals are filled with a special, medicated material, and the hole is replaced with filling material. Root canals normally take about an hour in our office to complete.
