Gingivitis is the beginning of periodontal or gum disease. When plaque builds up on teeth and is allowed to harden into tartar also known as calculus, a vicious cycle of disease ensues unless it is stopped by professional intervention. Untreated periodontal disease has been shown to be at the root of some very serious health issues such as premature birth, pregnancy complications, heart problems, type 2 diabetes and stroke. In addition to those issues, it also causes halitosis and can lead to tooth loss.
Periodontal therapy is called for when the gums get swollen or puffy, turn red and begin to bleed. Left untreated, the condition worsens over time. Teeth can loosen as toxins build up and dissolve bone tissue. A call to Singla Dental and an appointment with Dr. Singla or the hygienist for general dentistry can put a halt to the cycle and get you back on the road to dental health.
Treatment for Periodontitis
Dr. Singla will examine your gum tissue and bone structure to determine to what extent the disease has impacted your teeth. He will make an assessment and discuss with you the various methods of treatment. Your treatment plan depends on how extensive the damage is. Some levels of the disease can be treated with deep cleaning and special toothpastes and/or mouthwashes. More advanced disease may need to be treated surgically. Dr. Singla will walk you through the procedures so you will know what to expect and what home care routines you will need to follow in order to bring your mouth back to a healthy state.
